Last weekend The Party 7, the biggest indoor LAN-party in the Netherlands was played, with around 1000 people attending to the LAN. After a few weeks ago the decision was made that there would be a Call of Duty 2 tournament, 14 teams signed up, including H2k’s own H2k.Azerty! A few days after the LAN I managed to have a few words with Robin 'SpoX' de Hen about H2k.Azerty’s first LAN together!
Hi Spox, please introduce yourself to our readers.
"Hi my name is Robin “SpoX” de Hen, 21 years old and currently living in Zaandam. I’m currently a 3rd degree Informatics student and in my free time I love playing games, going out and having fun with friends. I’m currently playing for the H2k.Azerrty CoD2 team." You have just returned home a few days ago from a weekend in Eindhoven at The Party 7, the first COD2 LAN in years. Before the LAN your team mate Arnold said that he was looking forward to the LAN a lot, meeting online friends and of course fight for a nice amount of prize money. Was the LAN as good as you expected?
" I have to say I enjoyed The Party, although it had a few bumps here and there. First of all I must have seen every single traffic jam from The Netherlands as it took me five hours to get to Eindhoven. The competition wasn’t that well organised and the sleeping area was a total chaos. In the end we still had a great time, we met some players there and I have to say the atmosphere was very good. We had a fun weekend and enjoyed it a lot, the way back with the car was a lot shorter this time, so in the end I had a splendid weekend."
You went to the LAN as one of the favourites and managed to get to both the winner bracket final and the grand final in the end. Meanwhile you managed to beat Rodcad twice (13-1 and 13-9), but also lost against the winner of the LAN etrnal eSports. Was the 2nd place satisfying for you and did etrnal deserve the first place?
" Well of course you always want to go for the 1st place, but considering the fact we couldn’t practice that much lately due to PC issues from several players I still think we did a pretty good job. The first day we played some practice matches and the whole team feeling wasn’t there yet, but after our match against Moneymakers, we went in a smooth ride. We managed to take down RODCAD with quite some big numbers, but etrnal eSports showed they practiced a lot more than we did, so in the end they deserved the number 1 spot, although it was still a close 13-11 game. The players from etrnal are great lads, so I can only say well played. They showed consistency throughout the tourney, so they deserved the gold."
Like stated before, this was the first COD2 LAN in a few years. Do you think this will boost the community and get a new LAN going, possibly even with big European teams?
"Well CoD2 is far from dead from ClanBase for example, but looking at LANs it ain’t much lately anymore, which is a shame, cause CoD2 is still a great game to play. I’m therefore glad The Party organised a CoD2 LAN, as we finally got the opportunity to show our play offline and meet some of the other teams. There are already rumours on the Tek-9 forums, about a possible Summer CoD2 Lan, so hopefully we can make it happen. If so, see you there most probably!"
Besides TP7, you also played the COD2CUP last month. You started out well in the group stage but got beaten by eSuba and INFINITE and suddenly the tournament was over. What happened?
"Well eSuba is always a hard opponent to play against, so it’s not a big shame we lost against them. They hold quite some experienced players and the fact we couldn’t play with our usual five players made us lose that match. Against iNFINITE I can hardly remember to be really honest, only thing I do know is that we had to play with two mixers. We went in this tourney unprepared, but the dates and times of it just couldn’t fit our schedule back then."
Unfortunately, your team is already done playing in the EuroCup XIX, as you lost your two matches against STRUDLS and OUTCASTED. What happened in these matches?
"Well to be honest, this whole EuroCup season has been one big mess so far for us. Against STRUDLS we faced a well known returned hacker, which unfortunately cannot be banned (yet) due to too less evidence. I still hope we’ll see justice soon and see this person banned. Against OUTCASTED we were just lamed by the opponent. We agreed in the afternoon to reschedule the match, we even rechecked, everything was fine. Then 10 minutes before match time, they suddenly said we want to play, so we were forced to add two mixers to our account and play with them. Match ended in a close 13-11 loss, because Rico and I couldn’t play that day. In the end we were just screwed twice, so we don’t see any chances anymore really to defend our title. We’ll still play our two remaining matches and after that we’ll just start focusing getting back on top of the ladders and prepare for next season."
So far for this interview with Robin! Congratulations again with the 2nd place at TP7 and hopefully we will see H2k.Azerty performing well in the EuroCup and possibly also at other LAN’s soon!
"Thank you for this interview and see you all on the battlefields!"
