CoD4 has been succesfull ever since it was released, in terms of media, press, money for Activision, but also for the famous french based team oXmoze. The team has been victorious over various teams in various cups of CoD4 (CrossfireQCUP for example, being placed 2nd just behind EYE), and therefore we decided to catch up with the teams captain, vazy.
Hello there vazy, could you please introduce yourself?
"Hi Dwayne, my name is Marc Berthold, i'm 19 years old and i live in France. I'm actually in Second year in order to get a diploma in commerce. Except playing video games, i really like practicing sports and more precisely fighting sports such as Judo or Nippon Kempo, but i also like to go out and party =) As for my gaming history, i've been starting to play 5 years ago i guess on MOHAA, and then going on cod1, cod2 and now cod4. During all my gaming history, i've been able to play in great teams such as darkelf, inXtremis, emuLate, but also european teams like flameinstinct, reason gaming and even tek9."
You have played multiple games, how did you experiences the diverse scenes?
"At mohaa, the community wasn't that much developped when i played it, but it was a great experience and that made me familiar to the online game. But when i went to call of duty series, i discovered something new with the french community and a bit later the european community. Its impressive to see how different these two communities are because, on the firast hand, is really tough with its members and on the second hand. the european one is quite open as soon as you become quite known from the other players."
CoD4 has brought diversified opinions with itself. Competetive grounds have changed drasticly compared to CoD2 (perks etc.). How is your view on this?
"Indeed, cod4 is at the same time quite close to cod2 but also totally different. There is some new additions in that game which are really great :
First of all, the fact that only one man can plant the bomb is a lot more strategic compared to cod2 and is getting closer to counter strike.
Secondly, the fact that there isn't any one shot weapon anymore such as lee enfield or kar98, is something that's new for all players and you have to change your way of gaming to get people crossing a street.
Then, all that perks in the games are a great idea according to me, but only in a fun way. I mean, you can't imagine a competitive game with all perks, radar, air strike and chopper turned on because it would kill the game. However, its something that is funny to play on public, or with friends in order to get fun.
Finally, one of the biggest addition in the game is being able to sprint, which makes the game faster than any other Call of Duty."
The move to CoD4 has been extremely succesfull for oXmoze. Though, other teams have been rather unsuccesfull. How is your view on this move and the eventual pros and cons?
"I must agree with the fact that this move has been really succesfull to us with our 3rd place at the cod-gamer lan, the 2nd place in crossfireQcup and our actual results in codQcup. Even if we were at a good level on cod2, i guess we wouldnt have been able to reach the top as we're actually doing but we still have a lot to prove and to achieve. In my opinion, the move from cod2 to cod4 is not only great for its community but also for the e-sport in general. With the 7 millions of copies already sold and those who are gonna be, the community is astonishingly bigger than on cod2 and one of its best proof is the number of people on #cod4.wars ! What's more, there are so much more lans on that game than on cod2 and if we're working great, maybe its going to be added."
You guys are going to attend the CDC 4 LAN, in holland. How will you guys prepare for this LAN?
"Yes we'll go ot Enshede to compete against the best teams in europe. In order to get a chance to reach the top 3, we need to train a lot and that's what we're actually doing. With the codQcup still running, that's already a first train for us against top teams, but we also play french cups to get different experience. We need to play a lot but also to think about what we're doing false and what is good in order to advance and do nice results."
Where do you see oxmoze in the future after having such a succesfull start in this game and all the opportunities which are coming up in the CoD scene to prove yourselves?
"I hope we're gonna be able to continue to play as good as we do actually, and even more. With a lot of train, and also some luck, why not in the top 3 europe ? :D who knows ... We'll do our best at the cdc4 but also to every other lans we'll do in the upcoming weeks/months"
